Yes, that's right Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers its that time of the year when many of us kick back, put the intellectual feet up and enjoy a break from the workplace,
The Christmas decorations are packed away, out comes the barbeque, the backyard cricket and the relaxing by the pool!
To add to the overall spirit of relaxation I have pleasure in presenting to you via this epistle your purposely designed Summer Clinical Hamper
After you tear off the digital wrapping and the ethereal tinsel you will find that the hamper contains video graphics, internet links to add to the joy and fellowship of this summer holiday season.
Some of the gifts you may have seen before, but that is deliberate as they are all designed to have a common purpose-that being to increase/enhance/remind you of the true purpose of the business that we [clinicians, survivors, and carers] are in – the management and treatment of Stroke in Australia,
So, let's drag up a chair, fill the glass with some cold refreshing ale and grab a piece of left-over Christmas cake and undo the hamper. The first item in the hamper is a video of a Webinar titled
“Getting and Staying Motivated in Rehab”
This webinar hosted by Dr. Simone Dorsch the noted, renowned Stroke Clinician and a Director of StrokeEd features three Stroke Survivors who outline how they get and remain motivated to undertake their rehab, years after their stroke.See link below
Motivation and rehab Dec 2022 (1 hr).mp4 on Vimeo
I highly recommend this videographic for it features three stakeholders in the rehabilitation process. It was aired in November 2022 and was watched by stroke clinicians, carers, and survivors from around the world.

Again, another video hosted by Doctor Simone Dorsch featuring three stroke survivors who discuss the relevance of multiple repetitions and their impact on Neuroplasticity in the rehab process.
A very relevant videographic which can be effective when a clinician is discussing this concept with a stroke survivor and family.

I-REBOUND
The recently launched I-REBOUND website, developed by the Stroke Foundation and the University of Newcastle and was importantly co-designed with survivors of stroke. It has been designed to reduce the risk of another stroke by providing resources for eating well and moving more.
This project addresses the largest gap in effective secondary prevention of stroke in Australia - lack of access to evidenced-based programs for physical activity and healthy eating.
It directly addresses the priority areas of secondary stroke prevention through education and public awareness. Lifestyle factors including low physical activity levels and poor-quality diet are risk factors for recurrent stroke. Australian Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management recommend that people with stroke receive advice and support to increase physical activity and eat a healthy die.
The launch of I-REBOUND was a “watershed’ moment in the management of Stroke on the Australian Clinical Landscape. A “must read” for ALL Stroke Stakeholders.

StrokeEd.
Dr. Simone Dorsch, involved in 2 of the items in your Hamper is a Director of StrokeEd a collaboration that is at the zenith of clinical stroke education, both here and overseas. The StrokeEd Collaboration is an Australian registered company and education provider.
Members of StrokeEd offer evidence-based workshops and lectures to improve the skills, knowledge, and practice of rehabilitation therapists, and influence the delivery of rehabilitation services to stroke survivors.
Their website provides workshop information, lectures and resources for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals. Stroke survivors may also find some of the information helpful.
Workshop topics include upper and lower limb retraining, balance retraining, coaching skills, increasing amounts of practice (1000 reps), constraint-induced movement therapy and knowledge translation. Workshops are delivered face to face and online.
