Melita shares her precious moment for Stroke Week

It is Stroke Week and while I usually approach it predominantly as a health professional and a team member at Stroke Foundation, this year's theme of 'precious moments' pulled at my heartstrings as a survivor of stroke.

This photo is of the first time I got to hold my baby daughter, a week after having a stroke when I was in labour. Almost 18 years later, I can strongly recall the love, wonder and gratitude I felt in this moment, despite not really winning at focusing or smiling for the camera.

I am forever grateful to the birthing unit, paramedic, ED, radiology and neurosurgery staff who acted F.A.S.T. and gifted me all the precious moments and everything in between that I have had with my two beautiful girls since. - Melita (Stroke Foundation)
