Was wondering if there was any young survivors, who would like to catch up with me for a chat.

Hi Sarah,
You may want to join this conversation started by young survivor Ali, called what do you want to know as a young stroke survivor.
You can also message Ali directly here.
Diana
Thank you Diana, I will have a look at it :)
Hey Sarah,
Sorry for the lag! I read your initial post. I can relate to the "why me?" and it's very normal to question that. Even with risk factors no one suspects a stroke, young or old. I was 30 when I had a stroke and had no risk factors and was healthy. My background is Nursing and unfortunately I use to see on occasion young females presented with PE (pulmonary embolisms) and the biggest risk factor we could find was that they were on birth control. Don't get me wrong I was not doing research but you do start to see trends develops over time.
Have you been able to locate any support services in Tasi? How are things going for you right now? Anything specific I could try to answer as another stroke survivor?
Talk Soon and take care Sarah,
Ali =)
Hi Sarah
Hello great to hear from you! I hope you look up the links that Di has posted and something there is of help for you.
I see from you profile that you had a stroke at aged 23 and you live in Tasi, hows life for you?
I had a stroke at 22 - almost 23 years of age. I am now 47. I live in NSW, I lived in North East Victoria at the time of my stroke.
It feels like a long time ago - however I see your young smiling face and recall moments of my early recovery as an emerging young adult. No photos of me from back then - this was the days before social media.
Take Care
Sue
Hi Sue,
Thanks for comment on my blog.
My stroke was on the left side, I have trouble with speech and understanding. They think it was the pill. I was in a coma for 8 days, very touch and go.
My stroke actually happen in Melbourne in Geelong, as I was working over there for 2 weeks.
Tassie is very pretty down here. It's a bit cold but its great. My life has been good but sometimes it can be hard. I've been doing rehabilitation with my speech which is getting there. I am going back to work in the next month, I can't wait!
Hi Sarah,
I saw on TV that weather at Hobart is very cold and will continue for a couple of days. I am originally from Tassie but I left to go to Japan to teach English thirty years ago. So, I am not a young stroke survivor, but my stroke was 3 years ago.
Like you, I have had a lot of problems with speech, reading, comprehension, and following long conversations. Little by little you will get better if you continue your rehab, using a diary, reading short articles etc. You are still young and your brain will reconnect and rewire a lot faster than it did to me!
Good luck with your rehab, starting a new group at EnableMe (Young Survivors Group), and hope to see you again on the Forum or Blogs.
Marcus
Hi Marcus,
It is always very cold in winter in Tassie but I still love it.
Yea it looks like we both have the same problems. My speech is getting better everyday. When I'm talking to someone I know what I'm trying to say but I just can't speak it out. I just need to take my time.
Thank you Marcus I will have a look at the new group.
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
You can join the Facebook group: Young Victorian Stroke Support Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/yvssg/
You are welcome and because there is no Tasmania equivalent that I am aware of, the Victorian one is the place to go.
Good luck with your recovery!
Thank you! Im in Facebook so I will have a look.
My recovery is getting better.
Sarah 😊
