So I fell geting off the exercise bike at the gym a few weeks back and I thought I'd done OK but it turns out in the process of falling I did manage to do some damage. I've strained my right shoulder. Which would not be a problem except that my left arm doesn't work in any practical sense. So over the 2 weeks after the fall my right shoulder got sorer and sorer. Especially when I was driving as using the spinner means I drag at that shoulder quite a bit. So at my regular physio session I did the moan and Brendon spent quite a bit of our session asssessing the problem and releasing the protective muscles that were creating the stiffness. The verdict was the joint has been stressed and I need to "rest" it. Nice therory as Brendon knows. The pain point is in abduction and external rotation when combined. "So try to avoid geting into that position especially with any weight load, and it should heal up pretty quickly as it appears to be mostly healed already. When driving concentrate on keeping the elbow in close to the body and you should be fine."
Turns out I use that abduction and external rotation movement to get my bra and t-shirt on. But other than that I've managed to follow instructions.
The other news is I'm getting my act together to go for an international holiday. I'm a bit apprehensive as I'm planning to travel alone. I used to do that a lot and I'm quite comfortable with my own company. But I'm also heading into unknown territory. Plan is 3 weeks cruising around the mediteranian at the end of September. I've never been to Southern Europe and never done the big cruise ship thing. Been on plenty of smaller live aboard dive boats, but on those everyone is a diver so you always have something in common to talk about and your day is filled up.
Has anyone else done the cruise thing, especially post stroke? My parents are now official cruise addicts and they suggested it.
