A Key to Healing After a Stroke.
Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers, a stroke while individual in nature and scope is a traumatic event by any measure. The aftereffects are diverse, ranging from life-changing physical impacts to unseen mental and emotional scars that may [and often will] stay with that survivor for the remainder of their days.
Please speak to any Stroke Survivor and you will find that their stories are unique.
Yet to me, there is often a common trait that is apparent in their words. It is the realization, often wonderment, at what they have achieved since the sudden and unannounced incursion of stroke.
Coupled with that is the awakening of an inner strength that was the catalyst for their persistence in rehab and curative actions – a strength which in many instances lay dormant, unapparent not only to themselves but to the world around them.
Comments like “I did not know I had it in me or “He [stroke survivor\} surprised me, with his efforts to get back on the road” are commonplace when mixing with stroke survivors. This motivated me to put pen to paper and discuss the mental nucleus of this attitude, i.e. inner strength.

One crucial aspect that often goes unnoticed is the recognition of this inner strength. My essay attempts to explore the importance of acknowledging and harnessing inner strength so it plays an important role in the healing process after a stroke
