Contemporary stroke research is dominated by a management‑oriented paradigm focused on reducing, improving, and abating post‑stroke deficits.

Curative or restorative ambitions remain comparatively underdeveloped.

My essay, reflective in nature and somewhat different to my postings on this siteand is written from the perspective of an engaged stroke survivor with a background in corporate critical thinking, and examines the structural, scientific, and cultural forces that sustain this duality.

My supposition is that stroke research must expand its ambition—integrating management with emerging restorative science—and recognise survivors as intellectual contributors capable of shaping the future direction of the field.

I came into stroke research not as a clinician, nor as an academic, but as a survivor — one whose professional life had been defined by critical thinking, strategic analysis, and intellectual challenge.

My corporate career demanded rigorous questioning, conceptual clarity, and an ability to interrogate systems rather than simply operate within them.

My blog -The Duality of Contemporary Stroke Research: A Reflective Essay by an Engaged Stroke= expands on my assumptions, and I hope you enjoy reading and learning about my viewpoint.
