Let start with a minor one. Since my stroke my left leg is shorter than my right.
I can prove this by standing against a wall or sitting on a seat with a hard front edge. But my physios say that it’s just due to muscle shrinking.
O.K. but an explanation cannot make my leg longer.
So it’s Angus one and physios NIL.
Now for the big one- life on TV. Astrophysicists and similar experts, speaking to the common man (me) say something like this “considering our planet is one of billions in the universe, it is inconceivable that we are alone”
And by life they no not mean some slime and a few bacteria. They mean sentient beings with technologies similar to or better than ours. Goodness me!
So why should life develop on planets billions of miles apart, with no contact between them? Same physical conditions perhaps? No.
Change best describes the history of the universe. So chaps, just stick around for a few billon years and you may be proved right.
P.S. Before this article was posted on my blog I saw an interview on TV announcing the discovery of a rocky planet slightly bigger than earth rotating around it’s sun which would result in a climate conductive to life; light years away.
Change my mind? No
It is still a furphy that if something can happen, given time or quantities it must happen.
Angus
