Has anyone else got suggestions for suitable places to stay with their loved one who has suffered a stroke? My husband (Ian) is unable to walk and therefore requires accommodation with "wheel/walk-in shower", suitable toilet with hand rails and a bedroom that is large enough to get a wheelchair beside the bed for transfer.
We have stayed at a wonderful house on Phillip Island called "Ripples 'n' Tonic" which even supplied a hoist and height adjustable bed and even a beach wheelchair as the home has
direct access to the beach.
Another place in Victoria is Coton Cottage in Portarlington which is a very cute renovated cottage with two bedrooms (plus loft), kitchen/ living room and fully accessible bathroom situated directly across the road for a beach. The footpaths along beach are great for walking and wheeling.
(you can find details for these on the internet).
We also travelled to Tasmania overnight on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry which has two accessible cabins. Parking was easy and very close to the lifts with access to decks and all staff were very helpful .
We have also travelled to Queensland (Coollum) and WA and find Quest Apartments quite good and usually have at least one accessible apartment.
If anyone has any experiences to share I would be most grateful as we like to travel and are always looking for somewhere new to go.
Happy travelling Jenn
