Dear all, you may find this not helpful and unrelated to stroke, but I recently saw on Netflix a documentary titled 'My Octopus Teacher' and found it moving and interesting. Somehow, I find that different stories help me immensely. Take care, Michael

I absolutely loved this doco. I am glad that you've posted about it. I was amazed about the effect an animal can have on a person. It reminds me that a teacher can come in all shapes, sizes and species.
Hi Diana, yes we learn all the time. I must admit that I was never an animal person, but have changed since the stroke. What struck me was when I volunteered at the E&E hospital, occasionally, a vision impaired patient would come with their guide dog. Often, they would have to wait for a couple of hours and these dogs would lie next to the patient and would hardly move until the patient was called! Also, a former French soccer player suffered a stroke after he retired and collapsed in his apartment. He was alone with his dog. The dog started barking and didn't stop until the concierge was alerted and opened the door and called the ambulance. A life saved!

Too right , healing never stops - I think I was born into this life to heal with the many experiences I have had! Gain strength from whatever source works for you.
I have just passed my 28th year since stroke - yesterday.
Riding the waves of how emotions have surfaced has been a bit turbulent in the last few weeks. I'm settling into shallower, warmer, lapping on the shore waves now. Just do it your way Michael - there are many others keeping you company in that healing. It's a team effort from far and near.
Breather into the depth of that profound self healing!

Dear Sue, 28 years, interestingly how we remember these dates! Birthdays, wedding anniversaries and many other dates. People who have been touched by trauma remember these dates even more! I have a theory, which was confirmed by a (German) song I heard recently: 'Geboren um zu leben' ('born to live (to be alive)'). Take care!
Hi Sue, you said 'I was born into this life' and made me think... I often wonder about this... is it the meaning of life? Or something else. I recently caught up with a former colleague and we talked, and talked. We ended up talking about a book called 'To be or to have' by Erich Fromm. I guess the Q is the essence of our lives! Take care.
