Signed up - Was interested in the blogging. I've never blogged before, so just checked it out and seen the profile was asking me to "Tell us about yourself". Thought that was a good place to start... so i started and typed.
"Tell us about yourself" ….is an interesting request (…is this character limited is my first thought).
Prior to the quadruple-bypass and multiple subsequent acute strokes, i was an only child with a privileged career, living with my husband in the suburbs of western Sydney.
I have now become so many things that I wasn't 3 1/2 months ago - I am luckier.
I am now:
- A PRIMARY CARER for my single father
- A NURSE (unqualified - but when sh!t happens and you are a first responder....you need to step up!)
- A COACH (Let's work through this process together....)
- A DETECTIVE (Dysphasia - Did you drink the liquid you aren't yet meant to have? Signs are telling me the bottle is empty and I haven't had any yet. I'm on to you sneaky deaky)
- An OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (unqualified - but bath boards, daily visual "to do" boards, sticky notes)
- A TRANSLATOR (for Aphasia)
- A PHYSIO (Let's get out of the house and enjoy the sun)
- A DOMESTIC HELP (cleaning, cooking, washing)
- PERSONAL ASSISTANT (No, we are not free during that timeframe due to another appointment, however free after 10:30am)
- A TAXI DRIVER (Don't worry dad, I will drive us to that appointment)
- LUCKY to have my father alive & active. \o/
I am a Carer. Completely unqualified, but learning every day. Books don’t make you qualified....... practical experiences do."
