What a fantastic memory program it has turned out to be especially for me. Negatives thoughts that I had bout commencing this memory program soon turned into positives.
When I first met David Lawson face to face online I thought this could be embarrassing for me, especially when I had numerous attempts of remembering things from simple words like school, parent, coffee and other words on his list. I was hopeless with this then David asked me to read out a list words I could not even say or remember what these words meant or even get my tongue around any of them. I thought to myself I am going to find this extremely difficult and this is going to be hard. It must be worse than I thought.
David soon put me at ease and his memory survey’s started.
Next along came dear Chantal, what a beautiful person as well. The new words and skills commenced. Strategies, encoding, storage, retrieval, people names, drawing, homework, slides, apps so many different things to help improve my memory. Chantal and David had it all.
I did not talk or say a sentence for about 3 years, so I did not shut up for either of them as I was getting excited and YES I was slowly using new skills.
I started to improve and understand what was happening with all this, it was not “double-dutch” after all. My Hippocampus part of our brain that stores all of our information even started to become my friend. My Hippocampus must have been running on empty. A few weeks into the program I had a special little bolt of lightning into my brain, it was like a shock had zapped my brain into waking it up a little and I was actually putting little strategies into place, like a safety box to put things in, notes to remember, that diary problem I always had, trying the apps remembering a few names, do that homework, send that post card back, remember to ring Monash and leaves messages.
I would like to say the opportunity Monash has given me is marvelous, I am so more confident, I have changed my diet, lifestyle, sleep, more exercise. I have learnt so much over the last few weeks,
My memory is so much better. It is making the hard things of life become less simpler to remember where I have put something, I guess my safety box may get a little bigger!.
I am honoured to have been given the chance to participate and I am very gratefull for allowing me to part of this fantastic team.
I would highly recommend this to any stroke survivor it has helped me so much and thanks to Enable me for letting us know. Jan
