How they maintain their motivation to continue Rehab years after their Stroke.
That’s Right, Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers, Julie Davey, myself, and Ben Schelfhaut known \{to his closest friends as Belgian Benny, as he joined the Panel from the United Kingdom] were on a Webinar panel hosted by the internationally renowned, noted researcher and educator, Dr. Simone Dorsch titled “Getting and Staying Motivated in Rehab”.
The audience had a truly international flavour as in addition to clinicians, carers and fellow stroke survivors from Australia, there were viewers from UK, USA, IRELAND, SINGAPORE, NIGERIA, and several other countries that I have forgotten.
It was an occasion that the true value of “Lived Experience” came to the clinical fore.
Despite the 3 of us [stroke survivors] sustaining widely different strokes; undertaking bespoke inpatient rehab odysseys [Ms Jules does not like the term journey] we arrived at pretty similar reasons as to why we maintain our motivational levels.
When I review the Webinar, I am convinced that our motivation lives within us, and in some of us the lamp is lit automatically when we are confronted with a challenge.
With others, it requires a spark, a catalyst to awaken the urge to confront the challenge faced by a stroke survivor.
My Message to Stroke Clinicians.
FIND that spark that ignites the Motivation flame, nurture it and you will do good in the world of Stroke Rehab,
Keep moving towards Enlightenment for that is where the answers abide.
