Just last week British Prime Minister said that one of the great challenges in future is tackling the mental wellness in both children as well as adults. BREXIT has also caused much chagrin and consternation and certain amount of uncertainty. Depreciating UK pound has caused loss in value of assents. All these have an impact. But if one knows as to what causes all that then one can handle such situations. The precursor to formation of mind is name & form. Name is of five things, feeling, perception, intent/thoughts, associate and contemplate. Form is the form perception. Now imagine you walking on the pavement on a busy day and suddenly see a person who has abused you many years ago. Immediately the form perception formed in you causes the five things of name to arise. That leads to mind formation and would be a thought of anger or stress. If the person was a dear friend seen after long time then the mind will be of compassion and love. So the stress arises because of this illustration of name & form, and the association with consciousness that arose then. But if you are one who has practiced mindfulness meditation, then you will have the power to jettison those thoughts and have equanimity in you. That will mean no mental stress.
So please do practice breathing meditation of observing your breath, be it long as long and short as short. In a while you will realize that you have some control and do observe but without attachment. The feeling of breath after a while will begin to abate and you have better control. then you will feel bodily sensations arising in your body. They were there earlier but you did not observe. Now that your mind is tranquil you feel the tactile sensations. Do not give any value to those sensations. Slowly you will note that you no longer feel the breath though your breath is ongoing. That is when you begin to see this somatic body is not unique but is just like of others. First you observe your body, of feelings and then see that others too are the same and there is no real division as they are all somatic bodies with tactile sensations. Then you see the things that arise in your mind and cease. That is when you realize with wisdom that this body is there for you to develop mindfulness. That is the time you no longer yearn for a self as such. Be happy and contented.
