Playing “Patients” with Final Year OT Students.
Yesterday in company with several other Stroke Survivors, I participated in a series of interviews with Final Year Occupational Therapy students at the Australian Catholic University, North Sydney.
The purpose of the interviews [via ZOOM] is to provide the opportunity for the students to gain an understanding of the impact of neurological conditions on the life roles and day to day activities of actual stroke survivors.
This task is part of their development towards their final career objective of becoming an Occupational Therapists.
interviews were arranged Ms Helen Badge, Lecturer in Occupational Therapy, School of Allied Health, Faculty of Health Sciences\{North Sydney Campus\}Australian Catholic University.
The students had obviously prepared well for this simulation, the questions were relevant, wide ranging and generated a lot of discussion.
Full credit to them and their educators!
A wide range of topics were covered, and I found this exercise very satisfying and I came away satisfied that the future of Occupational Therapy within the clinical confines of Stroke rehabilitation is in good hands.
I am no stranger to this Campus as this is the second year that I have participated in this simulation and also the 4 year that I have addressed Final Year Physio students courtesy of an invitation from their Senior Lecturer, Doctor Simone Dorsch.
As my boyhood hero Hopalong Cassidy would say "Happy Trails"
