Stroke Week 2022 [8 – 14 August] commences a weeklong schedule of activities across this wide brown land that focuses on Stroke, its impact in human, social and economic cost.
\{The relevance of my title will become apparent further down this tome.\}
Stroke Week 2022 also provides me an opportunity to contribute ‘my 2 bobs worth’ as a Stroke Survivor [with limited knowledge about Stroke] that I have gained since I sustained my Left Lacunar Stroke in April 2016.
Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers let’s take a moment to reflect of stroke and its impacts on the Australian Community –
- An Australian will have a stroke every 19 minutes.
- In 2020, there were an estimated 445,000 survivors of stroke. compared to 420,000 survivors of stroke in 2012.
- By 2050, there will be an estimated 819,900 survivors of stroke.
- 8,703 people died from stroke in 2020.
- Strokes cost Australia $6.21billion in 2020.

The Cheese Makers of Stroke Week 2022.......Who are they?
Over the past six years I have become aware that there are countless doctors, clinicians and stroke survivors working tirelessly, often silently to find or refine/improve the treatment of strokes. These are some of the people to whom I pay tribute to during Stroke Week 2022.
There are nurses, doctors, physios, dietitians, speech therapists, nursing staff, educators, occupational therapists, and many others who are blessed with the skills and the patience of Job who are assisting Stroke Survivors on their rehab journeys.
They quietly go about their business in hospital wards, rehab gyms, even universities in a calm and quiet manner.
They are the Real Cheesemakers.
For 7 days I decree that this multitude of life savers will replace the Cheese Makers \{Python devotees will understand this reference\}.
In a world that is currently dominated by newly identified viruses, the clang of truths and half-truths; strident political jousting all designed to grab top of mind in the public arena, please remember these people.
They are worthy of your acclaim and respect.
One benefit that was a result of my stroke I have met and have had/am having the priveledge to work with a band of special people, whose skills are exemplary and whose dedication to the stroke industry is mind blowing.
I am in awe of these people.
I have mentioned some of their names many times in my written musings, so they know whom I are referring to.
I urge all Stroke Survivors to spend a quiet moment reflecting on people who have impacted their Post Stroke Days.
My Final Message to all readers of this message in 2022 Stroke Week is Know Your Numbers.
