To Glenn,
Thanks for reaching out.
I am so glad that you have NDIS and are working on your rehab and recovery goals
Navigating the NDIS can certainly be tricky and confusing at times.
It sounds like you have a great physio who is promoting independence and ongoing self-management via a gym program.
It appears that NDIS will pay for advice including exercise or diet advice, for example from a Physiotherapist or Dietician to manage the impact of your disability.
The NDIS does clearly state, however that it does not fund gym memberships here- https://ourguidelines.ndis.gov.au/would-we-fund-it/improved-health-and-wellbeing/gym-membership and gives a really good case example.
The Cost of a gym membership is seen by NDIS as a day to day living cost not solely and directly related to one’s disability support needs.
Do you have Private Health Insurance? There are some Private Health Insurance funds that may assist with Gym membership costs for health promotion, but this would need to be clarified with your individual health insurer fund.
If finances restrict you from accessing a gym membership, an alternate option might be setting up a Home Exercise Program with the help of a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist.
I hope this is a bit clearer for you and best wishes in your ongoing recovery
Alicia

Thanks Gary and Magellan for your input.
It is good to hear potential options that may be available regarding gym memberships through the NDIS other than what is stated.
When applying for any requests via NDIS it’s best to get your current treaters on board to help with recommendations that are individualised and in the best interest of your ongoing recovery and rehab goals.
That may be a Neurologist, GP, Physiotherapist or even a Dietician , it can be anyone that you are currently seeing or who is involved with your care.
