suffered hemorrhagic stroke 9 years ago which has left me with about 10% of leg for walking & 0% use of left arm & hand. After years of physio and about a dozen knee braces to help with drop foot & severe hyperextended knee with very little results. when wearing braces I use cane to help balance but I can still only walk short distances, another of my issues is extreme fatigue.

I am thinking of going with a rollator walker that I will get modified for one handed use but am wondering if anyone has tried this? I am looking for other suggestions & opinions on use of walker.

Hi Bugbite

When considering any gait aid, It’s important to seek professional advice from a physiotherapist who can prescribe the most appropriate and safest gait aid that’s right for you.

There are so many things to consider when choosing the right gait aid. Things such as balance, coordination, vision, upper body strength, lower body strength, physical endurance and what walking environment will you be using it on- indoors/outdoors or both?

There are rollator walkers that have one continuous handlebar and a one-handed braking system that make them able to be used with one hand. Likewise, there are also quad sticks with a four-legged base, that offer good stability, making it ideal for those who can only use one hand.

Again, please make sure to have an evaluation by a Physiotherapist who can help you with this.

I hope some of this information helps
