As I approach the ninth anniversary of my Stroke, I have \{as has been my annual custom\} undertaken an audit of my Living Life Rules. As I did in 2016, I reassessed my lifestyle and attitudes, like a mental and sociological ‘spring-clean’.
To some of you this process may appear self-centered, but I believe that each one of us has the right to undertake this process.
It will I believe make me a better human being and better resident on Terra Firma. So, Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers here I go
From This Day Forth.
My days will be devoted to my family, the chasing of my personal rainbows and enjoying the fellowship of my small but select group of friends [they know who they are\},
I will continue to look for the good in people, ignore the pricks, and pursue peace and serenity.
I will NEVER refuse a request to share my Lived Experience to help rid this world of the scourge of Stroke..
I will continue to repay the clinicians who healed me, by assisting in their research activities, telling my stroke story and learnings and insights to clinicians, students etc.
I will further my role as a Stroke Advocate.
I will continue to listen to Classical music, especially the Russian composers, the amazing beauty of Maria Callas, the grandeur of Wagner. And the sounds of the 60s.
I will in my quieter moments [and when my mood takes me] enjoy American country music - Jim Reeves, Emmylou Harris, George Jones.
I will continue to write my blogs, poetry and continue to seek that one elusive verse that lives within all of us. When I find that verse, I will cease writing.
In terms of other areas of my life, the following will apply--
I will talk to whom I want to; when I want to and speak my mind.
I will continue not to possess a mobile phone.
Tolerance, patience, and a calmer demeanor \{I hope\} will become My Pronouns that describe me. If you do not like that then you are free to leave my circle.
I will be contacted only via my email or FB page.
I will not run up or down escalators, run for the bus or train (there is always another one along soon).
I will not wear a watch unless bloody necessary! I will not engage in any conversations which contain the following topics - Reality Shows/ Cooking/ Renovation shows.
I will not make appointments [the exception is anything Stroke related],
My standard practice will be- 30 minutes before or after the required time. I will get revenge on everyone who were late for my meetings over the years If a supplier or tradesman provides a visit/calling window between 8am and 4 pm- this will be deemed unacceptable.
I operate on a 2-hour window- otherwise do not bother coming.
My standard dress will always be smart casual. Never polyester, always cotton.
And so,Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers I continue to live my life.......
My Thought for Today.
Brian A Beh - A Stroke Survivor.
