Well, it is not quite six months since my cerebellar stroke and things are slowly and steadily improving. I have been doing hydro therapy for just over 6 weeks, and today I managed to do all my balance exercises without holding onto a rail in the pool AND without falling over! My hubby, who comes to watch and critique my workouts, said I am still not quite putting my feet in the right position but they are improving. My land based physio has also been progressing well, although my dicky knees tend to cause more of a problem regarding my recovery than my imbalance. One of the exercises I do at the physio is on an exercise bike so today my hubby bought a special stand that I can connect my push bike to and pedal in-situ just like an exercise bike. I find that too much physical activity leaves me quite drained and am still trying to work out what is 'too much'! My doctor is pleased with my progress but concerned about the amount of stress I am under as I am helping my elderly mother transition from her home to a hostel. This is a very long and tedious process but we are slowly getting to the end of it. Other than that life post stroke is extremely interesting and challenging but it is something that I am learning I must 'work' at every day. Next on the agenda is a visit to the optometrist to see what, if any, affect the stroke has had on my eyes. Should be an interesting visit - especially the peripheral test. I always very nearly nodded off during this test before I had the stroke. I think there is a strong possibility that this time I WILL nod off!
