Rhyan was a loving father, brother and son.
He could brighten anyone’s day and would go above and beyond to help anyone he could.
He was passionate about health and fitness and was determined to transform into the best version of himself after his first stroke in January 2021.
He fought hard to lose 75kg and even became a runner, competing in several events all while proudly wearing his Stroke Foundation shirt.
On July 13, I took Rhyan to hospital thinking he had vertigo. The doctors told us he’d had another stroke and he was rushed into theatre.
Rhyan never woke up. We said our goodbyes 10 days later.
That’s why me and my daughters, Summer (15) and Chloe (12) will be participating in Stride4Stroke this November (click this link to support the family's efforts) by walking and riding our bikes. Like Rhyan, they love sport and exercise.
Stroke is devastating. I thought it was something that only happened to the elderly. In a blog Rhyan wrote in September 2022, he called me his hero.
“Because of Tracey's quick actions, I got to hospital within an hour, and got the treatment that I needed. I still have no sensation down my left-hand side - I can't feel hot or cold, and I can't feel pain. But I know how lucky I am.
To Trace, I have loved you as my partner in life, my wife, and the mother of my beautiful daughters. But I can't really find the words to tell you how deeply thankful that we're a team - you are my hero.”
Rhyan was the most caring, loving and giving person. Even when he was having a bad day, he’d go out of his way to help others.
He is sorely missed every day and will always be our hero.
We hope to make him proud this November.
