How do we define confidence???
After a stroke, most people have a massive impact on how they feel about themselves. (Me included)
Five years later, I know I am capable, yet my emotions still bring doubt.
I now understand that rebuilding confidence takes time and is both complex in the physical and emotional state.
I wanted to share strategies that I have used to build confidence; they include:
* Rid negative people and thrive for positive friends
* Enjoy hobbies
* Set realistic goals
* Use techniques such as relaxation / mindfulness
* Join a support group / happiness comes in numbers, and this identifies that you are not alone
and lastly,
* Write - use a journal, write your feelings down, write your achievements and just write "you have got this".
Building confidence is challenging work, it takes time but always remember that you are not alone. In 2023 statics state that 45,785 Australians suffered a stroke, equals to about 1 Australian every 11 mins.
Hence, if you are struggling with confidence then you are not alone, join a brain injury group or investigate Synapse meeting, what you are feeling today, someone else is feeling that too.
Cheers for now
Donna.
