My stroke journey starts here.

I actually called the Strokeline a couple of days ago but found the menu system confusing. I suffer with anxiety and panicked and hung up.

I've just had a tele appointment with my GP and he was really surprised that I hadn't been given the info I needed.

I wasn't even told I need clearance from my Stroke Specialist before I can drive again. I rang the hospital earlier in the week and they told me to call the Dept of Transport, who, of course couldn't help.

I also had a stroke diagnosed two days previously as.

vertigo but when the vertigo exercises did not work and I presented with an intense headache the GP said I was having a stroke and sent me to hospital.

It seems to be up to the GP to decide if you have to resist your license but in WA you definitely can’t drive for 3 months after a stroke. Maybe other rules apply in different states.

I found the Dert of Transpott gave conflicting information and it was very confusing but I eventually got the information I required (with the help of my wife)

Hi Ian, I'm sorry you had to struggle with a misdiagnosis as well. I have done some more research and Tas Dept of Transport rules are no driving for 4 weeks after a stroke. I rang the hospital today and was told my GP has to clear me to drive. Apparently the specialist at the hospital should have advised the date this can happen on my discharge notes but didn't. I now have to get my GP to contact the hospital for clarification. I estimated the date to 28/12 but I'll be surprised if it can be coordinated before then meaning I have to rely on family & friends to drive me around over Christmas.
