On the second day, after being struck by stroke, while lying in acute care, I was visited by, Elyse, a physiotherapist, who looked me straight in the eye and said, ‘let’s go for a walk, Tom’.
Her words gave me the belief, to stand up, to be placed in a harness, above a treadmill, to take my first post-stroke steps. I managed about 20–those all important first steps to my recovery.
Twenty months later, Elyse’s invitation, has become the title of my book, Let’s go for a walk, about my post stroke recovery. A journey that has returned most of my functional movement to allow independent living, though with some weakness to my right leg which I continue to strengthen. Happy to discuss my journey and my book with those who are interested.
And strength to those who are taking their first recovery steps.
