I work for the Department of Justice, performing admin work and front counter duties for correction officers. On Thursday 18/8/16 I was serving a client at the counter, I needed to see his ID. I could not find the words " driver's licence", it was so weird ! This had never happened to me before, I thought maybe I was getting a migraine, so I took some nurofen. Then I suddenly felt very unwell, I turned to my workmate and said her name, she looked at me , made me lie on the floor and she called an ambulance immediately.
I am so thankful she did, I became paralysed on my right side and was loosing my speech. The ambulance took me to Monash Medical Centre. I had a CT scan which showed a 2cm clot blocking the blood flow to 35% of my brain. I was given a clot busting drug and taken straight to surgery where the clot was removed. I was in surgery within 2 hours of having my stroke....it made all the difference .
Thanks to the Stoke Foundation's FAST message, my quick thinking work mate, and the amazing hospital staff, I am extremely fortunate to be able to walk, write, talk and smile again.
