Dear All
After an 11 day Vipassana Retreat I am back in circulation. This was my third 11 day retreat since 2009. What is it all about? It is about this beautiful consciousness, the one that is non-illustrated.
Why should one meditate? Here is an answer. As of now in just UK alone more than 20% of the population suffer from mental stress. According to a 2016 survey by NSW mental health association 64% suffer from mental stress. Also 75% say they suffer from physical stress. What do not know is that mind is the precursor to all things and physical stress too has mind at its base.
Stress is caused by the defiling with negative name-form. Negativity of illustrations cause people to delve into it again and again causing stress. So the way to alleviate mental stress and through that physical stress is meditation Mindfulness and Insight (Vipassana). The defilement of our mind are three fold, Dormant, churning inside and those surfacing out. Imagine a boiling pot of water. Initially it is dormant, but soon you will see bubbles forming in the water and later bubbles surfacing. With virtue one can control those that come out and with one-pointed concentration those bubbling inside. But to take the ones dormant and hiding you need insight meditation. First two you can overcome with mindfulness but is short lived. No sooner you get off mindfulness they start again. But if you with Insight remove the dormant ones then you are free. In the second part I will write about how one get started on Mindfulness Meditation. Sugath
