0 CommentsYesterday, in my position as the Inaugural Chair of the Consumer and Community Advisory Committee [CAGC] of The George Institute in Australia \{TGI\}, I presided over the final meeting for 2022.
In terms of my appointment, I then handed the role of Chair to the Deputy Chair, Ms Fiona Clay and my nominee Ms Mary Steele was appointed Deputy Chair.
It has been a very interesting formative year for the Committee.
We started with a ‘blank sheet of paper’ and we go into our second year well into the development of our Foundation documents, a strategic communication strategy and other operational plans.
It has not been without its challenges, however with such an experienced committee [from academia. medical research, lived experience and lived expertise\} we were and have been able to arrive at the appropriate decisions, which align with both the vison of the Committee and the George Institute for Global Health.
For me, in many ways it was like old home week- another start-up, working in a field where my knowledge was limited so I have to prevail upon my well-worn consulting skills.
This is the third time in my career I have had this challenge.
The term “herding cats’ come to mind, but I have learned a lot and made a contribution to research- and that’s important!
What’s instore for me- Well I remain on the Committee, go to the ‘back of the bus and still contribute.
There are, for me, several new projects in the pipeline, an exciting project at Flinders Uni, more lecturing, further involvement in a project at Newcastle UNI, my poetry writing, advocacy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The attached certificate will now go up on the wall of my study along with others. Thanking me for the stroke work I do.
Remember keep moving towards the Enlightenment for that is where the Answers abide.
Not bad for a lad who grew up on a dairy farm in the Hunter Valley!
