I've just had my last assessment for the PESTO clinical trial. The assessment and interview went well (finally got a fully working Telehealth session!). Unfortunately, I (and the researchers) will have to wait until the trial studies and data analysis are all complete before finding out whether I received the drug or placebo. This may be over a year away at current trial recruitment rates and approval for the treatment in Australia (and possible addition to the PBS) will be some time after that.
If you want to participate in the trial and help speed up approval for this potentially helpful treatment, please contact the organisers. New study sites are also starting up 9there is one in Auckland). Keep an eye on the Stroke Foundation clinical trials page for any new announcements, and check out other trials which might interest you for your particular circumstances.
I've got an appointment with a neuro-ophthalmologist in July to discuss possible solutions to my vision problems, so I'll be posting on any outcomes from that. In the meantime, I'' carry on enjoying doing what I can (went for a 5km walk in the bush recently, pity I can't see the detail as well as I would like). Adjusting to the new "me" is an ongoing journey.
