My name is Keren, and I am doing Stride4Stroke during November because four and a half years ago I was in an accident which resulted in a stroke.
It was 6am and I was training for a triathlon, doing my regular Thursday group ride. We were riding along The Esplanade in Adelaide, when there was a crash and I hit the gutter going 30 KM an hour. I and three other riders were involved.
The accident put me in a coma for 20 days and during that time I had a stroke. I woke up with right sided paralysis and now I wear an AFO.
I still train with my triathlon club and swim with one arm 2-3 times a week. I am slower, but I did the Victor Harbor Triathlon in March this year. I swam at my own pace, I swapped running for walking and my friend did the ride for me.
My physiotherapist at One Rehabilitation suggested that I join Stride4Stroke, and I am really excited to be part of their team.
I want to dedicate my moving minutes to The Lakers triathlon club for all the support they have given me, and Tristan my physio – I don’t know where I would be without them.
