EnableMe | enableme - stroke recovery and support

Hi All,

My mum was visiting me here in Perth from India she is 60 years old and 2 weeks ago she had an acute stroke. she has undergone procedure to remove the clot since then she is very weak on her left side and cannot move. She is in the hospital and 2 people always needs to attend her as she is not at all mobile. Doctors are saying she need rehab but state rehab is not accepting as he is not covered by insurance and I am not financially strong to help her. Hospital social worker is trying to help me. I am not sure what to do as I am single mum. without any family support accept dad who was also visiting from India? I am not sure how long it will take her to even sit down? they were due to go back on end of August? I feel so helpless and not get any info may be anyone here can help me

First of all I am so sorry to hear about your mum having a stroke while visiting. It is a very difficult situation you are in but unfortunately there isn't any funding for overseas visitors that I'm aware of to access funding for non-emergency medical or rehabilitation care unless your mum had travel insurance. Liaising with the hospital social worker is the best option in your case.

You could try crowd funding to see if you can cover the costs of some home based private therapy or carers while she is in Australia.
