Every week I buy the Sunday Telegraph. One of the inserts that I enjoy is the Body and Soul magazine as it usually contains items of interest to me. This week is no exception. The following is a copy of an article entitled: "New Tech Alert! Stroke Recovery Trackers."
"Scientists are developing a new breed of wearable devices, but instead of tracking your steps, they're designed to help people recover from strokes. Created by engineers from the US, the 'stretchable electronics' take the form of small bandages and adhere to the skin in order to monitor heart function, muscle activity and sleep quality. As well as being used on patients in hospital, the sensors can be worn at home, allowing doctors to intervene if anything goes wrong. The throat sensors can also track swallowing ability and patterns of speech, which may help doctors develop more targeted treatments for aphasia, a communication disorder that's often caused by stroke." It will be interesting to see if this technology is adopted in Australia and, if so, how long it will take to get here.
