Welcome Thrill seekers and Fellow Time Travellers to my latest packed programme [ my, that’s an alliteration if I ever saw one] but it's true.In this my latest epistle, we meet an the amazing group of Stroke Survivors who have overcome difficult challenges which emanated from their Stroke and impacted on their daily lives.
it's all in Hints and Hacks in the recently launched I-REBOUND an innovative web-based ‘ after stroke resource’- its launch in late 2022 was a real Everest moment in Australian Stroke Management.
Today gang you get to see the true value of lived experience.
Where this amazing group of Stroke Survivors share in a candid, honest and generous way the challenges that they have faced and in many cases ultimately overcame in their daily lives.As with the nature of stroke, these challenges are perpetual which makes the survivors’ efforts all that more special.
In doing that they have displayed [and continue to display] a level of courage and resilience which is to be admired, respected and envied -these are examples of generosity of the highest order.
Before we get to show in the road let's have a word for Ms Julie Davey another Stroke Survivor who was a member of I-REBOUND’s Consumer Advisory Group who will outline the objectives of Hints and Hack’s.
Colin and Aphasia.
Colin talks about his communication when he visits the shops [especially when he buys his seafood\}. He goes to familiar places where people know him and know how to communicate with him.He gives some sage advice about accessing the community when living with a communication deficit. Colin and Allison share their tips about having a regular taxi driver who is reliable and the benefit of planning ahead.
Brook and her wheelchair.
Brook talks about being active in a wheelchair and how the challenges will change over time. And by involving others, they can help her achieve her goals. She also shares her Hot air ballooning experience!.Her key thought is “Learning to ask the right questions and advocating for what you need.”
Paul and his Stroke journey.
Paul’s stroke was 8 years ago and In this video Paul talks about his progress. Pauls love for exercise before stroke helped in his recovery.
Tips from Karen, a carer on living life after stroke
Karen shares how she and Kevin have stayed active after stroke. We often overlook the important role that carers play and it is great to get her thoughts.
Meredith shares her stroke journey and finding meaning after stroke.
Meredith explains the importance of getting to know yourself again after stroke; accepting what has changed and embracing what you can do after stroke. Be open to new opportunities.
Shannon talks about pause breaks.
Shannon uses her Pause Breaks to clear her mind and to recharge. She recommends that you structure your day so that you can take a “pause” when you need one. Helps reduce your mental and physical fatigue.

The Genesis of I-REBOUND
The I-Rebound website has been developed by the Stroke Foundation and the University of
Newcastle and co-designed with Stroke Survivors. It has been designed to reduce the risk of
subsequent strokes by providing resources for eating well and moving more.
Professor Coralie English. University of Newcastle, who provides sage and strategic leadership to the I-REBOUND Project explains the objectives of this truly unique initiative. The website was funded by the Stroke Foundation (using funds from the Nancy & Vic Allen Stroke Prevention Memorial Fund Grant\}.
