Hi All. Hope you all are better today than yesterday. Now let me dive little deeper into Mindfulness Meditation. The Mindfulness that western world speak of and what the Enlightened One Buddha taught us are not the same. The western concept is actually be now and be in the present moment. Now that is very good. You neither digress to the past because it is gone and not to future because it is yet to come. That of course does not mean you do not have any thoughts of future. You can plan your future but do not try to live in that now.
What Buddha taught us is far more deep in mindfulness. To a question from a disciple, that all the while these desires of craving, existence, self-view and ignorance are flowing towards you, and how can you remove those. The Buddha said. "yes all the while this rapids are flowing, but they can be uncovered with mindfulness and fully eradicated with wisdom" So in essence the meditation of mindfulness should enable one to reach the goal of uncovering those defiling thoughts that are submerged in our consciousness. If they remain, with the slightest stimulus with an external object of form, sound, smell, taste, tough or things registering in consciousness, those dormant things will erupt. Let us use a simile here. Grandfather is seated in the garden and daughter brings in the little one telling him to look after for a while. After sometime, may be grandpa fall asleep. He wakes up and the kid is not there. He shouts for him and then the child comes towards him fully coated with mud and smiling. Grandpa may say you Donkey, you Baboon, you idiot etc, and will pick him up and take back to house and the mother might come out and take the child to be washed. Another situation, on the pavement on a very busy time two people walking in opposite direction may collide. Each might say those same words to the other ending in a fight and the Cop Shop. So the problem is not in the words but the illustration in consciousness. So folks you must now not only look to focus on here and now but to see with wisdom those that defile you and with insight meditation slowly eradicate them. Wish you all happiness at all times.
