Ok Setten, keep it positive, think positive thoughts, breathe in..... breathe out.... I know the topic of driving has probably been done to death but I thought I'd share my experience with you. I know that driving is a privilege and not a right. I've always been a driver, since I got my licence, I've driven around this country and other countries, driven many things, towed many things, I love to drive, that's what I do. So as I'm sure you can all imagine, receiving a letter from the RMS advising that my licence has been cancelled was a little confrontational. A little bit of empathy probably wouldn't have gone astray. Hindsight, I don't think you would want me on the road anyway. So 4 years on, I am now prepared to tick off one of my goals and to obtain my licence again. A chat to the OT's, a couple of eye tests, an appointment with my neurologist and a bundle of completed forms, set everything in motion. My wife was kind enough to take the day off and agreed to our "date night" at the local RMS office. They say that timing is everything and during these covid times, you've got to go with the flow, patience is a virtue. Our number was called, paperwork delivered and told to come back in 40 minutes to allow head office to assess the documents. Take two and 2 hours later and a bladder that was trying desperately to communicate with my brain, I was told that because I held a licence in Victoria, I had to come back in 10 days. Ohhhh...K....????? No explanation, like it or lump it, that's just how things go here. Now I had my learners permit in Victoria over 30 years ago??? I, I, No, I have no words. Oh, and you know how we have taken all this time to assess and agree to all the forms you provided, yep, we'll have to do that again after the 10 days..... Great. Now you can imagine with one income stream coming in to the household, having my wife take time off work is a little bit debilitating. I'll keep you posted. Now, please remember, this is only my experience and I can only hope and wish that it never happens to anyone else. Degree of difficulty x10, challenge accepted. Hold my beer.
