Greetings, Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers, if you have read many of my blogs on my Stroke \{for which I am grateful\} you will have gathered that I am a disciple of Lived Experience of Stroke Survivors and the important, no, make that critical role is plays in Stroke Rehab and Research.
The theme of today’s blog is another example of Lived Experience in the treatment of Neuroplasticity in Stroke Survivors’ rehab.
This online seminar was held in late 2023, however it came up in a conversation with several UK stroke researchers this week [I am on a PSE Project with them\}, and they asked that I send the link for them to distribute it. So as well,I thought that it may be of benefit if I post the blog again.
And Voila! here it is. Enjoy!
What Is Neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to change and adapt due to experience. It is an umbrella term referring to the brain's ability to change, reorganize, or grow neural networks. This can involve functional changes due to brain damage\{stroke\}.
Plasticity refers to the brain's malleability or ability to change; it does not imply that the brain is plastic. Neuro refers to neurons, the nerve cells that are the building blocks of the brain and nervous system. Thus, neuroplasticity allows nerve cells to change or adjust.
