The assessment... I felt like a kid again going up on stage in front of a big audience, the butterflies in my tummy, forgotten what that feels like. Can I do this, can I do that, can I see this, can I see that. Perception, cognition, peripheral eyesight.... yeah ok, what ev's. So it seems like I ticked all the right boxes, I passed with 100% on the perception test, slight modifications, like left-foot accelerator noted and apparently I can tow what I want and go wherever I want. Watch Out World, here, hold my beer! Don't worry peeps, baby steps.
Driving lesson..... a Mazda 3, really? what happened to the big old 60 series Toyota LandCruiser (expectation vs reality)... oh well. 1 and 1/2 hours of back roads, roundabouts and cul-de-sacs. Trying to re-educate my brain to use a left-foot accelerator and brake whilst attempting the push, pull method on the steering wheel (apparently not taught in Australia only in Europe). What's with this indicating rubbish, just kidding. I must confess, that was a full workout, my right arm and leg were zinging and to be honest, I couldn't wait to get out of the car. First step to normalising, right? I have to say there's a lot going for that bubble I am used to living in. Stepping Out is scary. All in all, a good venture out. You know it's a good day when the car is in one piece, the instructors nerves are intact, there's no rim rash and not an ounce of blood on the cars body work. Job well done I'd say. I'll keep you posted with my future lessons.
