Survival

A lot of people find their functions return to normal in time. My partner (who was the one who experienced the issue) is generally considered by people in the various stroke support groups we frequent to be the carer rather than the victim. Getting past the driving assessment can be an exercise since not all suitably qualified occupational therapists are client focussed .... a couple we encountered (especially on based at Springwood) were establishment drones with no ability to relate to their client. Its just a matter of looking around or getting a referral from someone who has been there done that. Some public hospitals have good leads but others don't care. For example, Brisbane southside is well catered for but the northside is a wasteland.

  Yes we are some of the lucky ones so we  should remember this even though we still have a lot of challenges in front of us.
