Thrill Seekers and Fellow Time Travellers, you maybe aware of the value that I place on enjoying, on a regular basis,my own company.
One of most popular blogs, My Desire for Solitude…Sometimes [over 2400 hits] outlines the role and benefits of spending time with myself.
The joy of one's own company is a profound and often underappreciated aspect of personal well-being. Here are some additional thoughts on why enjoying your own company can be both joyful and therapeutic.
Self-Discovery.
Spending time alone allows you to listen to your inner thoughts without external noise. It can lead to self-discovery, understanding your likes, dislikes, and personal values more deeply.
Mental Health
Solitude can be therapeutic. It gives the mind a break from social interactions, which can be draining, especially for introverts or those who are overstimulated by constant company.
It's an opportunity for meditation, reflection, or simply enjoying peaceful activities like reading or walking in nature.
Creativity.
Many artists, writers, and thinkers have noted that solitude fuels creativity.
Without distractions, your imagination can run free, leading to new ideas or solutions to problems. I do my best thinking \{both strategic and/or creative\} when I am in my special space.
Autonomy.
Enjoying your own company enhances your sense of autonomy. It reduces the dependency on others for happiness or entertainment, leading to a more independent and self-sufficient lifestyle.
Quality of Relationships.
When you're comfortable with being alone, the time you spend with others becomes more meaningful. You're not with others out of necessity but out of choice, which can lead to healthier, more genuine relationships.
Personal Growth.
Solitude provides space for personal growth activities like learning new skills, pursuing hobbies, or engaging in personal projects that might not fit into a busy social schedule.
Inner Peace.
There's a serene beauty in solitude where one can find peace, quiet, and contentment within oneself. This can lead to a profound sense of calm and acceptance of life's ups and downs.
I can vouch for that!
The Quiet Strengths of Solitude.
I am at somewhat of a loss to understand my re-awakened desire to enjoy bouts of solitude – was it because of the downstream impact of my stroke in 2016.
Or was it a result of my entering my autumn years\{retirement\} during which the process of enjoying time alone becomes attractive without the pressures of the corporate world, deadlines, and other commitments.
My Key Message.
Enjoying your own company can transform moments of solitude into opportunities for joy and personal enrichment
