Following her stroke seven years ago, Jenny has made it her mission to ensure other stroke survivors receive the same support she did.
Jenny’s involvement at Stroke Foundation has spanned across many programs. She has been involved in numerous media opportunities, social media, podcasts, newsletters, information stands, health checks, community fundraising events, and she has featured in the My Stroke Journey resource and Enable Me stroke community stories. In addition to this, in 2019 at the age of 84, Jenny was trained as a Stroke Safe speaker, and receives glowing feedback from the presentations she conducts in her local community.
“The Stroke Foundation helped me in my recovery and I wanted to give back. I appreciate the emotional support given by the Stroke Foundation. Anyone who has experienced a stroke will know the huge emotional toll it takes on the patient and their loved ones,” Jenny said.
“I like to meet new people and encourage them to look after their health to help prevent stroke.
“Being a survivor who has embraced life after stroke, I find people warm towards me when I talk about the risk factors, especially high blood pressure. Through hard work, I have managed to achieve some independence and get much pleasure out of life.”
Stroke Foundation Tasmania State Manager Eamonn O’Toole applauded Jenny for her incredible efforts.
"People like Jenny Ferrier are extremely generous with their time and go above and beyond to improve the state of stroke in Australia,” Mr O’Toole said.
