“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
I am asking the Parkrun Community to Be-FAST and consider the following question.
We have defibrillators for the heart, why not have educational challenges for the head? [Such as the Signs of Stroke (SOS) Parkrun Volunteer Challenge]. Look up what Beyond Blue has to say on the benefits of socialising for mental and physical heath and Parkrun has it covered. That's a win-win for everyone.
The sad fact is 1 Australian suffers a stroke every 11 minutes and 1 in every 4 occurs to someone under 65 so it makes sense in learning how to identify Stroke. I have even been told by a fellow stroke survivor that they experienced their stroke at a parkrun event!
In my opinion, the strength of parkrun is the community. Being active and social at parkrun is the best preventative medicine, no matter what ails you.
That's me in the Yellow Vest and yes, you can walk at parkrun. Many do!
