Today. Upon a whim……. I visited the Stroke Rehab Gym at Bankstown Hospital, as I was aware that a number of the staff were still there from my tenure in 2016.It has been over five years since I returned
The welcome I was accorded from Laura [ my guardian angel] and Michele, who was a student on a placement in 2016 and is now the Training manager] was amazing. Welcoming and very humbling.
I also saw Kate Thompson who was part of the coterie of clinicians who helped me to be able to walk out some 4 months after I was wheeler into the Emergency Department.
The sounds, the gentle requests of the staff to the stroke survivors were familiar, I was tempted to sit on the knee extender and do a few reps- but I realised that I had moved on.
I left quietly, yet happy I had made the trip – to a place that has become a weathervane in my life.
