National Stroke week has brought back many memories of 2012 when I was hit by massive stroke.
So many people helped to save my life. My husband phoned the ambulance triple (000) as he recognised something was seriously wrong.
Our life of recovery has been a very rugged journey at times.
The ambos were amazing. They gave me oxygen to make me more comfortable, within half hour I was in emergency. I will never forget them.
The physios, OTs never gave up as they worked with me to learn to walk again. Jim and I are supported by our adult family and grandchildren, and that emotional support is ongoing.
A big thankyou to my GP whom I consider to be the manager of my recovery. I won’t forget the hospital nurses and the cleaning ladies who picked up after me. With one arm in a sling, I felt pretty useless. I discovered that a container of blueberries can travel easily.
I did have funny moments during my long hospital stay.
Finally, there were the specialists who led me through the long journey of recovery. Thank you for your expertise. I am grateful. - Regards Jenny Ferrier.
