The Melbourne economists left their selection of a site for the annual cricket match too late to find a sports ground, so settled on Essex St., a minor service RD. next to an empty paddock.

The Sydney economists chose a sports ground difficult to access except via Essex St. and thus known as an Essex St. ground.

And so that’s how the confusion arouse. Clear?
