I would like to share a poem with you about those living alone and without a carer. A close friend who writes poetry and has Parkinsons was recently drawn to the fact that those who live alone without a carer, are often overlooked as a prominent group in awareness campaigns or featured in stories. In her words "... this group do it tough and have to battle and face the challenges of disease alone and coping daily with on-going health issues without any carer or family support! I have now written a short verse dedicated to my friend and others like her, to acknowledge their courage and strength as well as drawing attention to their plight!"
ALL ALONE
by Janice Rowan
Has anyone given serious thought to those who are isolated or live alone?
Who battle chronic illnesses with their only lifeline, the mobile or home phone.
With no carer to listen to or support them, when their symptoms become bad.
It's no surprise that they can feel very depressed or frustrated and angry or sad!
You can only attempt to imagine how challenging each day could possibly be?
With a variety of ailments, medical issues and pain, being unable to break free!
It's important then, that those who battle ill health alone, without help of any kind
Receive assistance to build networks of support, with useful resources to find!
So they can experience a sense of belonging to a community that truly does care
And where they feel comfortable to unleash main worries or voice concerns to share.
Government funding for Community nurses should also be available at no extra cost
So no solitary person ever has to feel unsupported, forgotten, abandoned or lost!!!
