Hi there. After a stroke 8 years ago, I had a ‘pseudo’ stroke a week ago, seemingly linked to a UTI. Going forward, can anyone provide any advice to me please?

Hi Carrie, It could be stroke recrudescence caused by an infection, hypotension, hyponatremia, insomnia, it stress or benzodiazepine use.
I had it 3 months after my stroke and it was probably related to stress I had a MRI in hospital but there were no changes detected although I did regress and it took about 3 months to recover.
I am not a doctor and assumed you have had a MRI and you GP has ruled out a TIA.
Hope this helps,
Ian
Thank you Ian. I appreciate your response. You are correct, as my MRI was clear and your word for it makes it sound more real. Have you any advice on how to handle the next 3 months? Some symptoms have resurfaced, and my confidence has received a bit of a blow. (I am still in hospital.) The likelihood of further issues is apparently ‘a thing’, and possible. My head hurts just thinking about it all. 😉C.
Hi Carrie, In a way I regret commenting as I don’t know how long after a stroke you can get stroke recrudescence, and in your case it has been 8 years since your stroke. The doctors in the hospital should be able to give a much better diagnosis.
I am sorry to hear the possibility of further issues and understand how your confidence has received a bit of blow because that happened to me when I had stroke recrudescence.
Good luck,
Ian
In terms of handling it, my condition regressed and it was depressing but it was only temporary maybe a month not 3 months and I started my balance exercise program again to regain my balance and now my balance is fine. (I had a cerebellum stroke that affects balance). Maybe contact Stroke Line and see what they suggest as I have found them very supportive with useful suggestions.
Allthe best,
Ian
Again, thank you Ian. My stroke was also in the cerebellum … our paths seem somewhat similar. I returned from hospital today, feeling clearer and stronger than a week ago. Here’s hoping a month will lead to further progress. Your prompt response helped me in no small way. Take care, and thx again Ian.
Glad to hear you have returned home. Maybe I got the recovery time for stroke recrudescence wrong because it happened to me 7 years ago and when I googled recovery time it was a lot less than a month,
All the best,
Ian
Hi Carrie, thank you for your post.
