Last year Mal was in hospital, 2 months after his haemorrhagic stroke. He spent 8 months in hospital all up, moving from Brisbane to Bundaberg and then to a rehabilitation facility back in Brisbane. The closest he was to home was 2 hours away.
Last Christmas he was being fed via a PEG and hadn't uttered a sound, let alone speak, and had to be hoisted in and out of bed. My family came to celebrate Christmas with him. It was a tough time for all of us.
Fast forward to this year and he is home (forever grateful to the NDIS), he can walk short distances and his speech is coming along.
I'm so proud of him and his progress. He has a fabulous attitude even though his world has been turned upside down.
