Even at 56 I consider myself a "young" stroke survivor,  I think this would be a great launch and would love to be there in Melbourne but unfortunately it is bit to far from Sydney to be a "day trip". The people who are speakers on the day would be worth listening to, Emma Gee is such an inspiration. Emma's recent book is a frank account of her stroke journey, I think it should be a "must" read for all health professionals, it certainly brought back memories for me and a chuckle or two...Go Em!

Yes I guess I am "young" since when I had three strokes. You need to make sure that everybody read and understand the issues of Strokes.

One third of all strokes happen to people under the age of 65 years. They are known as Young Stroke. They can happen to anyone, even fit healthy young adults. Yet this group have higher unmet need than those of retirement age. Stroke is generally thought of as an old persons disease which leaves younger stroke survivors disadvantaged, often due to a lack of understanding of their stroke impairments - some of which are invisible such as memory issues or anxiety. Stroke can even occur in children and babies. We need more research and greater understanding of Young Stroke. The launch of Brain Injury Awareness Week on 15 Aug will be focusing on Young Stroke this year.
