'When people ask Hugh directly, “Do you feel like you’re 100 percent back? Do you feel like your old self?” He usually says, “I’m a hundred percent me.” This is the perfect answer. It’s the only answer. He doesn’t remember what he used to be like, so how can he say? What does this percent tell anyone anyway?'

I love what you bring us here to look at - absolutely great answer by Hugh. It goes to show that many years may have passed since my stroke. And people are still being asked the same old questions !!
I remember turning up to the service I had been referred to once home and as on this particular day I must have presented so sunny and happy as a 23 year old even in the bleak midst of what was happening, I was just happy to be alive really. And then I was asked.
"So do you think you are back to normal?" So now I am not normal! Was what sprung to mind.
Having know clue as to where to start to answer this question and how belittled it made me feel. With my slow slurred speech and fumbling around of words in my head to get out how confusing I found that question. I couldn't even start to talk about this with more relative strangers in my life. So that's about when I began writing. And that's a very good thing for me to have done.

100%? I will never know the answer. I will know that today is sunny, but I have some anxiety regarding my meeting this morning. That is all I know.
