EnableMe | enableme - stroke recovery and support

Hi everyone,

In the current edition of the EnableMe newsletter information about Coles Quiet Hours was included. I had seen this before in one of Shelagh Brennands posts. At the time I made a note to investigate whether our local Bathurst Store participates in this initiative.

Yesterday at our Central West Brain Injury Action Group end of year meeting I was talking to a couple of the workers there and asked if they had heard anything and then said I would investigate.

So yesterday evening I asked at the Checkout if our Coles is a part of this. plan. I was directed to the Store Manager who happened to be on the floor at the time. After explaining that this information about Quiet Hour had come through in a newsletter I asked the question and was told our nearest store was Wellington. Ages away.

I then said that I would be interested to know if plans change as I was the Chairperson of The Determinators - Bathurst Stroke Support Group and also Chairperson of The Central West Brain Injury Action Group and would be keen to pass on this information if Quiet Hour were to occur at the store,

This appeared to have some impact and then Manager said he would make a phone call tomorrow about this and for me to come back and see him in the New Year.

I am a bit excited at the prospect I may have had some influence on a decision which could benefit many people!!

Has anyone else followed up on their local Coles about Quiet Hour?

Hello all,

I enquired at the Armidale Coles and was told that they are not participating as there aren’t enough people in the area with Autism to warrant it. I’ve explained to the manager that people with after effects of stroke would find quiet hour very helpful. In the meantime the nearest participating store is in Inverell. It is more than 1 1/2 hours and 130 km away!

Great work in your attempts to reinforce that people with Autism would not be the only ones to benefit from the quiet hour in Coles. I will let you know of what happens when I follow up in the New Year in our own Coles.

Yes all the over stimulation from music, extra people, rush - it can make for a full head. I hope you find some peace while out and about this Christmas.

Okay, so my follow up with Coles and their quiet hour is in the process, I called up our Coles store today and was asked to call back in half and hour as the Manager was in a meeting.

I'll let you know how this goes.
