Hi, I'm Alison, I had a basal ganglia ischemic stroke in March 2024. My recovery has been strong, and I've worked hard on it. I've devised my own rehab, but the one thing I didn't understand at the time was the nurse ( I think it was) in the hospital telling me to look after my mental health, as that's an important part of stroke recovery. I remember at the time my thought was "what's she talking about, I'm fine, I don't need any help"... and then probably about six weeks later it hit me. I did need help and was grateful to have a counselling service available to me through my work. I spent a lot of the first month, in absolute fear and terror of another stroke happening, and that was hard to stop. And the panic attacks happened about once a month, for a year or so. I'm grateful to say that I haven't had one for quite some time. I started my podcast one year after the stroke and have shared about my recovery. I am hoping I can help people with their own recovery by sharing my own story.
