I am not answering in relation to knowing the answer to your question. What sort of rehab are you after? I was a public patient when my stroke happened - I did have private heath insurance however being with all ability people during my rehab was so important.
Hi Annie,
Unfortunately not in my experience as the hospitals will only allow staff who are employed by them to treat patients within their facility due to risk, legal requirements, insurance etc. You can double check with the hospital but I imagine the answer will be no.
Do you feel there is inadequate therapy? If so, have you requested additional sessions or expressed your dissatisfaction at the level of therapy? You could meet with the Nurse Unit Manager or the Allied Health Manager (OT and PT) to express your concerns or contact the Patient Liaison Officer to discuss. Another option is requesting home exercises and activities you and the family can do outside of therapy time. Even though you are in acute you should still be receiving regular therapy.
I would also get really clear about how much therapy to expect and that will be offered at the rehab facility.
If you would like to discuss further please call us on StrokeLine on 1800 787 653.
Best wishes,
